A Paradigm Shift in Education
This year marks a significant change in the landscape of higher education in Portugal. For years, Medicine was either the top or among the top three courses with the highest admission scores. However, this year, it has dropped in rankings, now sitting at eighth place among various fields like Aerospace Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, and Architecture.
The top-ranking Medicine course in the first phase of the 2024/2025 National Access Competition comes from the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto, boasting an average score of 185.5. This is a decline from last year's second place with an average of 186.8.
In contrast to 2023, where Medicine was only surpassed by the Aerospace Engineering course at the University of Minho, this year multiple disciplines have overtaken it in the rankings. Notably, the new Aerospace Engineering course at U.Porto has debuted in first place, with the lowest score reaching 194.5.
