Access Restrictions to Grilo Tunnel
Attention drivers! Access from the A8 and Frielas Roundabout in Loures to the Grilo Tunnel in Lisbon will be closed between Monday and Thursday from 10 PM to 6 AM due to ongoing construction work, as announced by the PSP this Friday.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Command of Lisbon PSP (Cometlis) informed that the road closure is necessary for the rehabilitation of safety systems within the Grilo Tunnel, located on the IC17/CRIL (Lisbon Interior Regional Circular).
This work will be monitored by the Lisbon Traffic Division of the PSP.
Last July, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced traffic restrictions for nine months due to a €14 million renovation project for the Grilo Tunnel, which includes:
- Improvement of drainage systems
- Installation of a new pavement
- Replacement of lighting, ventilation, and fire safety systems
Additionally, new systems for hazardous material detection, speed control (radars), vehicle counting and classification, and video monitoring will be installed in the tunnel.
The Grilo Tunnel, inaugurated in 1998, currently handles an average daily traffic of over 115,000 vehicles.
