Windstar's New Star Seeker Yacht
The Star Seeker, the first new build in the Star Class for Windstar Cruises, has officially touched the water for the first time at the WestSEA Shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. This momentous occasion was celebrated with a float-out ceremony attended by prominent figures including Mario Ferreira and Manuel Barros from Mystic Invest, alongside John Gunner, Windstar’s Vice President of Expansion Projects.
Gunner expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the dedication and craftsmanship of the Portuguese shipyard team. He stated, "Seeing a ship come together and be at the point where she leaves dry dock for the sea is a memorable milestone in the life of a new build project."
While the exterior construction of the Star Seeker is complete, work continues on the interiors, which will feature 112 luxurious suites. The ship will boast five dining options, a full-service spa, a fitness facility, and an innovative Watersports Platform that provides direct access to the sea.
With a capacity of 224 guests and a staff-to-guest ratio of 1:2, the Star Seeker is set to commence service in December 2025. Its inaugural journey will begin in Málaga, Spain, culminating in Miami, Florida, where the ship's christening ceremony is scheduled for January 2026. Following this, it will embark on its first Caribbean voyage before heading to Alaska for a summer cruise season and later to Asia for Around Japan itineraries.
The Star Seeker, along with its sister ship, the Star Explorer, which will join the fleet in 2026, features ice-strengthened hulls that expand access to new destinations. Equipped with advanced safety, propulsion, and navigation technology, including pump jet thrusters and forward-facing Sonar, these ships are designed for modern cruising.
In line with Windstar's commitment to sustainability, the Star Seeker is fitted with tier III Nox-rated Rolls Royce engines and the ability to connect to shore power, significantly reducing port emissions. Additionally, it includes advanced wastewater treatment systems that comply with global standards.
