Operation Against VIP Drug Dealers in Lisbon
The PSP (Public Security Police) has successfully apprehended several VIP clients utilizing the discreet services of a dealer based in Campolide. This operation could potentially involve the highest number of public figures in drug trafficking and consumption in recent decades.
N., the dealer under investigation, frequented electronic music festivals and brunch events, where he built a vast network of contacts. The PSP began monitoring him last summer and discovered his discreet delivery service, which catered specifically to public figures seeking a low-profile method for purchasing drugs. These services included door-to-door deliveries, making the transactions less conspicuous.
A New Methodology in Drug Trafficking
N. operated mainly through social media, using platforms like Telegram and WhatsApp to advertise his products. Clients would place orders, and the drugs would be delivered directly to their homes. As Rui Costa, the sub-inspector of the Lisbon Criminal Investigation Division, noted, this method significantly protected the clients' images.
Over six months, a team of five from the Lisbon PSP monitored N., capturing disguised conversations, filming product deliveries, and unveiling the extensive client network that included dozens of public figures. The investigation revealed that N. employed a delivery system vastly different from typical drug trafficking methods, which usually involve fixed locations and visible 'lookouts'.
The Arrest and Its Implications
On the last Thursday of November, the PSP arrested N. and another accomplice. Following the arrest, the operation was publicly announced, dubbing N. as the 'Uber of Drugs'. The investigation could lead to formal identification of several VIP clients in the coming weeks.
In the raid, authorities seized a significant cache of drugs, including 1,590 doses of cocaine, 3,320 doses of ecstasy, and 2,260 doses of MDMA, alongside €18,000 in cash. N.'s past, marked by violence and a previous conviction for patricide, adds a complex layer to this ongoing investigation into the drug trade among Portugal's elite.
