Key Highlights from Ponta do Sol Council Day

Célia Pessegueiro, in a recent address during the Ponta do Sol Council Day, emphasized the need for urgent progress on the alternative expressway connecting Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol, and Calheta. This infrastructure is crucial for improving accessibility in the region.

Pessegueiro also took the opportunity to highlight the achievements made possible by the PRR and European funds secured by António Costa, which enabled the construction of 30 housing units in Ponta do Sol. She expressed hope for the continuation of this national program, advocating for an extension and additional funding to support more projects in the area.

In her address, she noted that this year, the City Council has allocated 100,000 euros for small home improvement projects. She reiterated the commitment to education and the development of cultural and sports activities, positioning Ponta do Sol as a cultural capital.

On infrastructure, Pessegueiro revealed that over 2 million euros have been invested this year in essential underground works, including basic sanitation and potable water systems, which, although not visible, are vital for the community's structure.

Concluding her speech, she announced a strategic plan for the future of the Council, centered around the Vila da Ponta do Sol, which includes plans for a new parking facility accommodating 210 vehicles across five levels, three of which will be underground, and a tunnel to improve traffic flow near the waterfront without obstructing the main thoroughfare.

Accessibility improvements remain a top priority, with a specific focus on fulfilling promises made in 2009 regarding access to Canhas.
