Urgent Notice: Five Emergency Services Closing This Weekend in Portugal!

Five emergency services will be closed this weekend in the fields of pediatrics, gynecology, and obstetrics, as announced by the National Health Service (SNS).

According to the latest information available as of 4 PM today on the SNS portal, the following emergency services will be unavailable:

  • Obstetrics at Portimão Hospital
  • Gynecology and Obstetrics at Vila Franca de Xira Hospital
  • Pediatrics at Beatriz Ângelo Hospital (Loures)
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology at Caldas da Rainha Hospital
  • Gynecology and Obstetrics at Santo André Hospital (Leiria)

Additionally, some services will operate with restrictions.

The Cascais Dr. José de Almeida Hospital will cater to internal emergencies and cases referred by the Urgent Patient Orientation Center (CODU) of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and the SNS24 line (808242424), available from 00:00 to 24:00 for Gynecology and Obstetrics.

Other hospitals, including Amadora/Sintra (Pediatrics from 00:00 – 08:00 and 20:00 – 24:00), São Francisco Xavier, Beatriz Ângelo, Abrantes, Santa Maria, and Centro Materno Infantil do Norte, will also have Gynecology and Obstetrics services available throughout the day.

The Garcia de Orta Hospital (Almada) and São Bernardo Hospital (Setúbal) will only accept cases referred by CODU/INEM during the same hours.

In total, around 190 emergency services will remain operational this weekend.

Health services advise users to always call 808242424 before heading to the emergency department.
