CP Workers Strike Suspended

The strike by ticket controllers and workers of Comboios de Portugal (CP), which was set to continue until November 3, has been suspended following an agreement reached between the company and the union. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Infrastructures and Housing.

The agreement was confirmed by Miguel Pinto Luz, who stated that the negotiations allowed for a consensus to be reached. As a result, the union, represented by the Sindicato Ferroviário da Revisão Comercial Itinerante (SFRCI), has committed to immediately suspending the strike, which was expected to significantly disrupt train operations and affect citizens' daily lives.

Miguel Pinto Luz expressed satisfaction with this resolution, highlighting the benefits for CP users and the importance of maintaining social peace within the company.

The strike had begun last Thursday, with the transport company anticipating operational disruptions, particularly on October 31, when a total shutdown was planned. The SFRCI initiated the strike due to the failure to comply with an agreement signed in July of the previous year.

The union pointed out that the agreement included provisions for transferring a transport and availability subsidy into the base salary, which would provide additional benefits for employees. Additionally, they sought to achieve a better balance in relation to the salaries of train drivers.
