Miguel Albuquerque Intervenes in Firefighting Efforts

The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, has decided to interrupt his vacation in Porto Santo to personally oversee the firefighting efforts in Madeira. The region is currently battling wildfires that are affecting the municipalities of Ribeira Brava and Câmara de Lobos, leading to the evacuation of residents from their homes.

Travel Plans

Albuquerque is traveling aboard the Lobo Martinho, departing Porto Santo at 8:00 PM. This maritime route was chosen due to uncertainties regarding flight availability between the two islands.

Current Situation

The wildfires ignited on Wednesday in Serra de Água and have since spread to the higher areas of Câmara de Lobos and Curral das Freitas, forcing numerous evacuations.

Firefighting Efforts

Multiple firefighting units are currently on-site, with aerial support operating on several fronts. A special firefighting team from the mainland, consisting of 80 members, is expected to arrive today to assist in combating the blazes.
