Europe's Summer Heatwave: From France to Greece, Temperatures Soar

While the UK has been experiencing a relatively cool and wet summer, parts of Europe are currently experiencing a significant heatwave, with temperatures reaching record highs in popular holiday destinations.

Red warnings have been issued across southern Italy, Croatia, and the Balkans, indicating extreme heat. Tourists heading to these areas need to be particularly cautious, as temperatures are well above average, even for the peak of summer.

France:

Paris is expected to experience high temperatures, with highs of 34°C on Friday and Saturday, well above the usual July average. Further south in Nice, temperatures will remain in the 30s°C throughout the week.

Spain:

The Spanish islands, including Tenerife and Ibiza, will see slightly above-average temperatures, with highs in the 30s°C. However, the Spanish mainland is expected to experience the most intense heat, with Seville forecast to reach 41°C on Friday and 40°C again on Tuesday.

Italy:

Southern Italy is under a rare heat warning, with Sicily expected to reach 38°C on Sunday. The humidity in Palermo could make it feel as hot as 44°C.

Greece:

Crete and Corfu are also experiencing extremely hot weather, with highs of 40°C in Corfu on Friday. Athens is forecast to reach 38°C from Thursday to Saturday.

Portugal:

Lisbon will see highs of 33°C on Thursday and Friday, before cooling down slightly on Saturday. The Algarve region will also experience high temperatures, with highs of 35°C on Friday.

Beyond Europe:

Cyprus has seen record high temperatures in June, and the heatwave continues with highs of 39°C in Larnaca. Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt is expected to reach 43°C, making it feel as hot as 50°C due to humidity. Marrakech in Morocco will also experience scorching temperatures, with highs above 40°C throughout the week.
