EuroPride Lisboa 2025 Set to Celebrate LGBTQIA+ Rights

From June 14 to 22, 2025, Lisbon will host EuroPride, welcoming thousands from the LGBTQIA+ community worldwide. This year, the event promises to go beyond the traditional parade, featuring a human rights conference, a youth gathering, and various artistic performances and sports competitions.

José Marquina, a key organizer from the EuroPride Lisboa 2025 Association, stated that the program will encompass much more than just the parade through Lisbon's main avenues. The conference will address pressing human rights issues, emphasizing Portugal's historical connections to Brazil, Africa, and Asia.

Marquina noted that EuroPride is the most significant event for the LGBTQIA+ community in Europe and that it might be a long time before it returns to Portugal due to the competition among cities to host this festive and reflective celebration.

During a recent meeting in Porto, representatives chose Turin, Italy, to host EuroPride 2027, while Amsterdam will take on the event in 2026. The Lisbon parade is expected to traverse major streets, including Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, Avenida da República, and Avenida da Liberdade, with activities planned at notable cultural venues like Cinema São Jorge and Palácio Galveias.

Founded in 1994, the European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA) unites various European associations that organize pride marches in their respective cities annually. Portugal won the bid to host EuroPride in 2022, backed by several prominent LGBTQIA+ organizations.
