Almancil has officially been elevated to city status as of January 24, following a unanimous vote by the Parliament. This change means that the municipality of Loulé now boasts three cities. The proposal, initially presented in September by Algarve deputies Jamila Madeira, Luís Graça, and Jorge Botelho from the PS party, has finally passed through all necessary channels.

Almancil, located approximately 14 kilometers from the Gago Coutinho International Airport and only 10 kilometers from Faro, covers an area of 62.30 square kilometers and has a population of 10,677, nearly doubling since 1981. The deputies highlighted Almancil's notable economic dynamism and cosmopolitan nature, citing its impressive infrastructure and the highest per capita ratio of banking institutions in the country.

In addition to Almancil's elevation, Boliqueime was also recently upgraded to village status, with celebrations planned in the new village. This is an exciting time for the region as it continues to grow and develop economically and socially.
