TAP has announced the return of direct flights between Faro (FAO) in the Algarve and Funchal (FNC) in Madeira, starting June 2. This service will run until September 11, with two flights per week, enhancing domestic connectivity during one of the busiest travel seasons.

The route between Faro and Funchal, which TAP had not operated for nearly two decades, is now back, offering a convenient option for both Portuguese and international travelers looking to explore multiple tourist destinations in one trip. Eduardo Jesus, the Secretary of Economy, Tourism and Culture of Madeira, celebrated this decision, noting it fulfills a long-identified need. The expectation is that this route will thrive and potentially extend into the winter season.

New Developments for the Region
This route's resumption coincides with growth at Faro Airport (FAO), which is expected to see an 8% increase in weekly flight frequencies compared to last summer. In total, there will be 821 flights per week, including new routes to New York (EWR), Helsinki (HEL), and Reykjavik (KEF).
André Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Region, also welcomed the return of the Madeira connection, highlighting it as a positive sign for TAP's strengthening presence in the south of the country. He advocated for the creation of new routes, including connections from Faro to Porto and Brazil.
