A Showcase of Algarve's Religious Heritage
D. Manuel Quintas emphasized that the Faro Episcopal Palace is the “ideal location” for hosting the photography exhibition dedicated to the religious heritage of the Algarve. This exhibition, titled ‘O Património Religioso do Algarve’, was inaugurated on February 17, 2025, and showcases stunning visuals that reflect the region's spiritual history.
According to the Diocese of Algarve, this exhibition is a result of the 2nd Photography Contest organized by the Association of Interpreter Guides of Algarve (AGIGARVE) in 2024, which featured 73 photographs. An independent jury selected 25 photographs for display.
The Mayor of Faro, Rogério Bacalhau, commended the Diocese for its significant efforts in preserving the region's heritage, stating that the Episcopal Palace is a prime example of this commitment. He noted, “This is a considerable investment and effort by the diocese to maintain these circumstances.”
The contest’s winning photograph, titled ‘Um Santo no fim do mundo’ by Sergey Ranskiy, was followed by works from Grazyna Kolanko and João de Freitas in second and third places, respectively.
D. Manuel Quintas served as one of the judges alongside notable figures from the tourism and education sectors. This exhibition could pave the way for future temporary exhibitions highlighting Algarve's rich cultural and religious tapestry.
