Commendations for Joint Operations
The Director General of the National Police of Spain, Francisco Pardo Piqueras, congratulated all police units involved, stating, “Today marks five months since five dangerous criminals escaped from Vale de Judeus prison in Alcoentre.” He noted that the operation concluded successfully the day before with the detention of the two fugitives still at large.
Both fugitives, Rodolfo Lohrman, a 59-year-old Argentine, and Mark Roscaleer, a 35-year-old Brit, are now in police custody in Alicante and will soon face judicial proceedings for extradition.
“We are aware that crime knows no borders, and neither should police cooperation,” Piqueras emphasized, highlighting the importance of ongoing collaboration between the two countries' police forces.
Importance of Immediate Action
Luís Neves, the Director of the Portuguese Judicial Police, expressed pride in the successful operation, stating, “It’s a happy day for the police. We fulfilled our mission to recapture five dangerous criminals.” He acknowledged the vital cooperation between the two nations' police, which began immediately after the escape, sharing intelligence to track the fugitives.
Details of the Arrest
The police operation involved extensive surveillance, initially suspecting the fugitives might be between Málaga and Alicante. The arrest occurred at a gas station where the fugitives showed resistance, necessitating police intervention. Weapons, €50,000, and false documentation were found in their vehicle.
“Spain is not a comfortable place for fugitives,” Martinez Duarte from the National Police of Spain stated, confirming that the two fugitives will be available for justice until Sunday, with expectations of a swift extradition process back to Portugal.
The operation's success reflects the strong ties and excellent cooperation between the police forces of Spain and Portugal, which have been maintained over decades.
