Lisbon City Council Awarded €1.94 Million
The Lisbon City Council will receive a compensation of €1.94 million from the Lisbon Metro for the 'friendly expropriation' of the Baluarte do Livramento complex. This decision was made during a private meeting where the proposal was approved to facilitate the expansion of the Red Line to Alcântara.
The proposal, signed by Carlos Moedas, the president of the Lisbon City Council, received majority approval from the PSD/CDS-PP, PS, and PCP, with Cidadãos Por Lisboa, Livre, and BE abstaining.
Compensation Allocation
The partial compensation will be allocated towards the purchase of six residential properties that will become part of the municipality's assets. The Lisbon Metro will cover the acquisition costs to relocate municipal occupants from the Baluarte do Livramento complex. According to the proposal, the municipality can exercise the right of preference to acquire up to six properties that meet the necessary requirements for relocating municipal tenants.
Current Status of the Complex
Currently, there are 12 residential spaces in the Baluarte do Livramento complex, with six managed by the Municipal Housing and Local Development Directorate and six by Casa de Goa. All municipal occupants have opted for equivalent relocation instead of monetary compensation.
The administrative possession of the spaces occurred on July 15, and the document indicates the urgency to vacate the complex. Although the proposed compensation amount is still under discussion, it may facilitate a phased approach to the expropriation process, allowing for quick relocation of municipal occupants.
Future Plans for Relocation
The municipality has identified a property in Alcântara priced at €230,000, suitable for at least two municipal occupants from Baluarte do Livramento. The acquisition costs will be entirely covered by the Metro.
Ongoing Projects and Challenges
In addition, the council approved amendments to contracts with the municipal company Lisboa Ocidental SRU, focusing on eight new projects for secondary schools. However, there were criticisms regarding delays in urgent school interventions, which the governing PSD/CDS-PP management denied.
