The Lisbon City Council, in collaboration with the Union of Trade and Services Associations, captured the moment when the lights were turned on. They shared two videos: one showing President Carlos Moedas leading the countdown on stage, and another aerial view captured by drone, displaying the entire square and the impressive effect of the fireworks on the tree before its illumination.
This year, the Christmas lights were turned on a week earlier than usual and will operate longer each day: Sunday to Thursday from 17:30 to 00:00; Friday and Saturday from 17:30 to 01:00; and on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, from 17:30 to 02:00. The total cost for this year's illuminations is €749,500, the same as in 2023.
The festive program will commence on November 30 with various cultural events planned throughout the season.
