Funchal Experiences Mild Rain without Major Incidents

The Madeira Archipelago was under a yellow warning early Monday morning due to forecasts of rain, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms. However, despite the alerts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the rainfall recorded turned out to be moderate, with occasional heavy downpours in certain areas.

By 10:00 AM, Funchal recorded the highest rainfall accumulation. The only weather station in the Madeira Autonomous Region (RAM) that did not register precipitation was located in Prazeres. According to information gathered by JM, there were no reports of landslides or significant flooding, especially in Funchal, where the rain was felt most intensely.

The Observatory's weather station recorded a total of 16.2 mm of rain since midnight. In the Lido area, rainfall reached 14.8 mm, with a peak of 14.5 mm within just one hour. In Santo da Serra, the IPMA station noted 15.2 mm, significantly higher than the 8.2 mm recorded at Pico do Areeiro. These areas experienced the highest rainfall intensity.

In the northern part of the island, rainfall was sparse, with only 2.9 mm recorded in Porto Moniz and 4.3 mm in Santana. On Porto Santo, the accumulated precipitation was even lower at 1.7 mm.

Despite the meteorological warnings and the occurrence of locally strong showers, the rain did not cause any significant damage in the region.
