Portugal Secures Major Orienteering Championship

The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) Council has officially appointed Portugal as the host for two significant MTBO championships in the upcoming years, based on recommendations from the MTBO Commission.

Upcoming Championships in Portugal

The 2026 CX80 European MTBO Championships and the European Junior and Youth MTBO Championships are set to take place in Ourém, located just north of the capital, Lisbon. This thrilling event will feature four competitions: Sprint, Middle, Mass Start, and Mixed Relay, all scheduled for the end of May 2026. Portugal's experience in organizing major MTBO events is noteworthy, having hosted seven IOF MTBO events since 2010. The EMTBOC 2027 will mark the fourth such championship in the country.

World Championships in Latvia

Following the European Championships, the world's top MTBO athletes will travel to Latvia for the 2027 CX80 World MTBO Championships and the Junior World MTBO Championships. The host city, Madona, recently showcased its capabilities by hosting the European Ski Orienteering Championships in 2023. The modern skiing complex will serve as the event center, providing an extensive trail network for course setters.

Latvia made its debut in hosting an international MTBO event in 2024, when it welcomed the CX80 MTBO World Cup and the U23 World MTBO Championships.
