Sakata has officially laid the first stone of its new headquarters in the Iberian Peninsula. The ceremony was led by Mr. Hiroshi Sakata, President of Sakata Seed Corporation, alongside His Excellency the Ambassador of Japan in Spain, Mr. Takahiro Nakamae, and Mayor Antonio Bonilla of VĂcar.
Mr. Sakata emphasized the significance of these new headquarters for the company's future, stating, "The time has come for our company to take the next step and consolidate its position in the world's most dynamic seed sector thanks to the new headquarters. We are convinced that the building will become an innovation center and will facilitate collaboration between our teams, leading to important advances in the future."
The Japanese Ambassador highlighted Sakata's role in addressing global challenges such as population growth and climate change, expressing gratitude for the collaboration between Spain and Japan to boost European agriculture.
The construction is set to be completed by 2026, aiming to position Almeria as a crucial location for Sakata's business strategy. I am very proud that Sakata has chosen VĂcar to develop this project in AlmerĂa."
Javier Bernabéu, general manager of Sakata Seed Ibérica, reflected on the company's journey in Spain, marking the establishment of their research station in Almeria as a key milestone. He expressed hopes for the future through a symbolic 'time capsule' containing wishes from guests and employees, which will be placed in the foundation of the new headquarters.
