TAP Air Portugal Expands Transatlantic Routes
Summer 2025 is set to be a record-breaking season for transatlantic travel as TAP Air Portugal announces three new seasonal routes connecting the U.S. to Portugal:
- Boston to Porto, starting May 14
- Los Angeles to Lisbon, starting May 16
- San Francisco to Terceira in the Azores, starting June 3
Flight Details
Porto Route: Operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays until October 25. The flight will utilize a single-aisle Airbus A321LR covering a distance of 3,145 miles.
Los Angeles to Lisbon: Scheduled for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays until May 25, with an additional flight on Saturdays from May 25 to October 25. This route will employ the wide-body Airbus A330-900neo.
San Francisco to Terceira: This route will run on Tuesdays until August 26, also using the Airbus A330-900neo.
New Destinations
This expansion marks the addition of two new destinations in TAP's transatlantic portfolio. The Los Angeles route is particularly noteworthy as it introduces direct flights from LAX, which previously lacked nonstop service to Portugal. The Terceira route is notable for being the longest flight to the island's airport at 4,918 miles, with weekly flights.
TAP's Growth
With these additions, TAP is gearing up to offer over 100 weekly flights from 11 North American gateways to Portugal this summer. TAP’s director for the Americas, Carlos Antunes, expressed excitement over the new services, highlighting the popular Portugal Stopover program that allows travelers to enjoy up to 10 days in Portugal at no extra airfare.
This route expansion aligns with a broader network growth across Europe, with major U.S. airlines also announcing new routes to various European destinations, including Barcelona, Madrid, and Madeira.
