Exciting Debut of the Tribeca Festival in Lisbon

The Tribeca Festival Lisboa kicks off this Thursday, featuring stars like Robert De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg, and Ricardo AraĂşjo Pereira. The festival anticipates over 1,500 attendees at the Beato Innovation District each day.

This marks the first European edition of the Tribeca Festival, originally founded two decades ago in New York City. Lisbon will host a vibrant lineup of cinema, entertainment, and engaging discussions with more than a hundred participants, including directors, actors, musicians, and journalists.

Opening Event and Ticket Sales

The official opening is set for this Thursday with an exclusive event at the MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology), while the central programming will take place on Friday and Saturday at Beato. According to sources from the Impresa group, which includes the SIC TV station and the Opto streaming platform, expectations are high for daily attendance.

Daily tickets are priced at €75, and a two-day pass costs €130. The festival's program features a blend of American independent films, Portuguese cinema, live podcasts, musical performances, and discussions with both international and national stars.

Notable Guests and Topics

Among the notable guests are Jane Rosenthal (producer) and Robert De Niro, who co-founded the festival in New York to support independent cinema and emerging talents. Other confirmed attendees include Patty Jenkins (director), Whoopi Goldberg (actress), and Griffin Dunne (actor).

Portuguese talents include actors Afonso Pimentel, Alba Baptista, Daniela Ruah, and Joaquim de Almeida, as well as musician Dino d’Santiago and singer Gisela João. Writers Mia Couto and José Eduardo Agualusa will also be present, along with comedian Ricardo Araújo Pereira.

The festival will host around twenty discussions covering topics such as the impact of Artificial Intelligence on filmmaking, storytelling, humor, and women's empowerment.

Featured Films

The lineup includes notable films like “Anora” by Sean Baker, which won the Palma de Ouro at Cannes, and “In the Summers” by Lacorazza Samudio, awarded at Sundance. Additionally, the Portuguese series “Azul” by Pedro Varela, the feature film “Podia Ter Esperado Por Agosto” by César Mourão, and the series “Unicórnios”, which explores the startup culture, are part of the program.

The Tribeca Festival Lisboa is a collaboration between Tribeca Enterprises, SIC, OPTO, and the Lisbon City Council.
