Unlocking the Future of Algarve Tourism: Join the Seminar in Portimão!

The Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes (ISMAT), in collaboration with Turismo de Portugal, is hosting a seminar titled “Pensar Turismo, pensar Algarve” on January 13 at the TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão. This event aims to demonstrate to students in the Algarve region that tourism is a promising career path. Attendees will include representatives from Turismo de Portugal, local government officials, educational institutions, and industry professionals.

The seminar will kick off at 2:00 PM with a welcome for guests, followed by an opening speech from Álvaro Bila, the Mayor of Portimão at 2:30 PM. At 2:45 PM, André Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Region, will present the “Strategic Marketing Plan for Algarve 2028.”

At 3:30 PM, the topic will shift to “Training for Quality,” featuring speakers such as Madalena Feu, Regional Delegate of the Algarve for the Employment and Vocational Training Institute, and Catarina Paiva, Administrator of Turismo de Portugal.

The discussion will continue at 5:15 PM with David Martins, General Director of Castro Marim Golfe & Country Club, addressing “Tourism: A Profession with a Future.” The main theme of the seminar will be explored at 6:00 PM with contributions from André Gomes and José Apolinário, President of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission of Algarve.

Participants will discuss the need for specialized training for current and future employees in the hospitality and tourism sectors, including a presentation of the “Qualificar Gera(Ação)” program, a partnership between ISMAT's Tourism Management degree and local businesses. The event will also see attendance from teachers and students from various tourism schools across the Algarve region.
