New Leadership in the Ismaili Community

In a private ceremony held at the Henrique de Mendonça Palace in Lisbon, the 50th Aga Khan, hereditary Imam of the Ismailis, was enthroned amidst the presence of Ismaili Muslim leaders.

Rahim Aga Khan, who succeeds his father, Karim Aga Khan, who passed away on February 4th, 2025, is dedicated to the spiritual and material well-being of the Ismaili community. The late Aga Khan was laid to rest in Egypt following an illustrious life marked by his contributions to the community since his enthronement in 1957.

The ceremony was broadcast live to Ismailis worldwide, allowing followers from over 35 countries to participate from their local jamatkhanas (meeting places).

A Call to Action

In his speech, the new Aga Khan emphasized the importance of peace, tolerance, and inclusion, urging his community to actively engage as loyal citizens of their respective countries. He specifically called upon Ismailis to set an example in addressing climate change, highlighting the significance of balancing spiritual and worldly matters.

He also expressed gratitude to the governments of Portugal and Egypt for their support and recognition of his father's contributions, ensuring a dignified farewell.

This event marks a pivotal moment for the Ismaili community, as they rally around their new leader and his vision for a brighter future.
