Summary:

  • 35% of total capacity in Algarve reservoirs ensures water supply for another year

  • Current situation is better than last year with 41 hm³ more water

  • Recent rainfall led to a 5% increase in reservoir capacity

  • Odeleite Reservoir at 47%, while others show varying levels of capacity

Current Water Levels in Algarve Reservoirs

The six reservoirs that supply the Algarve region are currently at 35% of their total water storage capacity, which ensures water supply for another year, as confirmed by the Agência Portuguesa de Ambiente (APA).

The total volume of these reservoirs amounts to approximately 155 hm³, which is better than the previous year by an increase of 41 hm³. Despite this improvement, officials stress the need to continue water conservation efforts.

In mid-November, following recent rainfall in the southern region, the reservoirs were at 34% capacity, reflecting a 5% increase due to the rains in the first half of November.

Specific Reservoir Capacities

  • Odeleite Reservoir (Sotavento): 47% capacity (60.50 hm³)
  • Beliche Reservoir: 39% capacity (18.74 hm³)
  • Funcho Reservoir: 38% capacity (18.05 hm³)
  • Odelouca Reservoir (Barlavento): 30% capacity (47.88 hm³)
  • Arade Reservoir: 17% capacity (4.82 hm³)
  • Bravura Reservoir: 13% capacity (4.40 hm³)

The data indicates that the contingency plan approved by the interministerial committee, which involved a relief of water cuts, aligns with the goal of maintaining sufficient water reserves for a year.
