The new brand “Savor the Algarve” was officially launched today in Faro, uniting local primary producers and food processors dedicated to promoting sustainable production and local consumption in the region.
Pedro Valadas Monteiro, the Vice President of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of the Algarve, emphasized the brand's goal: "We want to group these small producers, and not only the small ones, but also the large ones, leveraging the power of the Algarve brand itself.”
This new brand will be exclusively used by the Local Producers Network of the Algarve (RPLA) and will serve as a differentiation factor, enhancing the value of the products produced.
"We aim to create a pool of various products from different producers across the Algarve, formalizing what has previously been a very fragmented approach,” said Monteiro.
The project, funded by European aid, is led by a partnership including the University of Algarve, the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL), and the Vila Real de Santo AntĂłnio School of Hospitality and Tourism.
Producers who join the network will be required to adhere to a specification sheet, ensuring compliance with quality standards and good agricultural practices.
The initial goal is to enroll at least 100 associated producers. Monteiro added, “We hope that this project will continue beyond its execution period and be carried on by the producers and their associations.”
Additionally, a guarantee seal will be introduced to assure consumers that the products they purchase meet established standards. Luis Silva, a producer from Quinta do Freixo, noted that this initiative will shorten distribution circuits, bringing consumers closer to local producers.
At the launch event, regional food producers were invited to join the network and commit to the sustainability principles outlined in the Regulation of the Local Producers Network of the Algarve.
