JW Marriott has officially announced plans to open its first property in Portugal, situated within the Palmares Ocean Living & Golf resort. Scheduled to welcome guests at the beginning of 2028, the JW Marriott Algarve Palmares Hotel & Spa will feature 172 elegantly appointed rooms and suites with stunning sea views, alongside 133 JW Marriott branded residences.

Architectural Vision

The resort's design, crafted by RCR Arquitectes and Goddard Littlefair, beautifully incorporates the region's Moorish influences into a contemporary context. Each area is designed to provide a sensory journey through the Algarve, showcasing sun-weathered textures and artisanal details that reflect centuries of Portuguese craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

Interior Design

Goddard Littlefair’s interiors enhance the architecture by ensuring a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor spaces. As Martin Goddard, co-founder of the studio, states: “Our goal was to create interiors that feel deeply connected to the landscape, blending Moorish influences with the Algarve’s rich culture and craftsmanship. The result is a space that feels immersive, tactile, and in harmony with its surroundings.”

Culinary Offerings

The resort will feature multiple Food & Beverage venues, including an all-day dining restaurant, a poolside bar, and the Michelin-starred Al-Sud restaurant.

Wellness and Recreation

Guests can indulge in wellness facilities that include serene treatment suites, a fitness center, and both indoor and outdoor pools. Additionally, there will be a 27-hole golf course and a signature JW Garden to enhance the guest experience.

Industry Insights

Francisco Sottomayor, CEO of investors Norfin, highlighted, “This JW Marriott hotel will be the brand’s first in Portugal and will be the cornerstone to elevate the Palmares resort and set a new benchmark for the luxury tourism market in the Algarve.” Meanwhile, Timothy Walton, Senior Vice President for Development in Western Europe of Marriott International, added, “The signing of JW Marriott Algarve Palmares Hotel & Spa continues to reflect the strong growth opportunities we are seeing for luxury accommodation in Portugal.”
