Fertagus Trains Enhance Connectivity
The capital of Portugal is becoming increasingly connected to the South Bank, thanks to the Fertagus trains, which now run every 20 minutes in both directions. This significant change, effective from December 15, 2024, aims to improve mobility between these two regions of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

The new schedule also applies during the weekend, resulting from a collaboration between Fertagus, Infraestruturas de Portugal, and the Government, aiming to extend the company’s concession until March 2031.
Reduced Waiting Times and Relief for Buses
This adjustment reduces waiting times by 10 minutes from the previous 30-minute intervals during peak hours, and significantly lessens the one-hour intervals during off-peak times. This alleviates pressure on alternative transport modes, such as the Carris Metropolitana buses, which have seen above-average demand.
Moreover, it enhances internal travel within the Setúbal Peninsula, serving areas like Palmela, Pinhal Novo, and Coina.

According to Government calculations, the new Fertagus schedules will increase transport capacity by 73% on weekdays and 172% on weekends and holidays.
André Martins, the Mayor of Setúbal, stated:
"The first train departs Setúbal at 05:43, and the last at 00:43. From Lisbon, the first leaves at 05:53, and the last at 01:23. On weekends and holidays, the first train from Setúbal is at 06:03, and the last at 23:03. From Lisbon, the first departs Roma-Areeiro at 06:13 and the last at 00:03. Always every 20 minutes."
