Weather Alert: Rain and Winds Return to Portugal
This Sunday, expect a significant change in weather conditions across mainland Portugal, with rain and strong winds predicted in various regions, as reported by the specialized portal LusoMeteo. The weekend will be characterized by worsening meteorological conditions, particularly with precipitation expected in the North and Central parts of the country, alongside strong coastal winds and a very agitated sea.
In the Azores and Madeira, the weather remains similar to recent days, featuring cloudiness, some wind, and occasional chances of precipitation in the Azores.
The day is set to start with widespread cloud cover across the continental territory, but a gradual clearing is anticipated throughout the day. Rainfall is primarily expected along the North and Central coasts, particularly north of the Montejunto-Estrela line. However, models indicate a low chance (10% to 20%) of light rain inland, influenced by a cut-off depression moving over Spain.
As the afternoon progresses, a weather front will likely bring about an improvement in conditions, with sunshine returning to most regions.
The wind will pick up, especially in the North and West coastal areas, with gusts reaching between 45 and 65 km/h. Despite the increased wind intensity, it is not expected to reach levels that would warrant a yellow alert from the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
Temperatures will slightly drop, leading to a cooler atmosphere throughout the day. The sea is forecasted to be very agitated, with significant wave activity expected along the western coast.
There remains some uncertainty in the weather forecast, as the evolution of the Atlantic anticyclone may influence the behavior of the depression in the coming days.
