Henrique Gouveia e Melo, the former Chief of Staff of the Navy, has expressed his belief that the PSD and PS parties need to find common ground in addressing the current political crisis. He aligns with former Assembly President Augusto Santos Silva, who warned both parties about the necessity of dialogue after the upcoming early legislative elections. Gouveia e Melo pointed out that while extremists may gather only 20% of the vote, the remaining 80% of the population seeks central solutions.

During a recent event at the Universidade Lusófona, Gouveia e Melo shared his concerns regarding the confidence motion presented by the government, highlighting that there are behaviors that require reevaluation, as the future of the nation is at stake. He stressed the importance of effective governance in light of critical international circumstances that could potentially harm Portugal.

Brand Registration and Presidential Aspirations

In a move that some interpret as a step towards a presidential candidacy, Gouveia e Melo has registered the brand "Movimento Gouveia e Melo Presidente" to protect his name from unauthorized use. He clarified that this decision was not an indication of imminent candidacy but rather a necessary measure to safeguard his brand, especially after a previous attempt to utilize it without his consent.

When asked if the current political crisis might delay his potential candidacy for the presidency, Gouveia e Melo refrained from commenting directly, stating that his future is not the topic of discussion.
