Weekend Emergency Service Closures in Portugal: This Saturday, six emergency units in Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Pediatrics will be closed, with five more set to close on Sunday, as reported by the National Health Service (SNS).

Affected Hospitals:

  • Saturday Closures:
    • Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hospital Garcia de Orta (Almada)
    • Obstetrics at Hospital de Vila Franca de Xira
    • Obstetrics at Hospital de Santo André
    • Obstetrics at Hospital Distrital de Santarém
  • Sunday Update:
    • Obstetrics at Hospital Distrital de Santarém will reopen, while the other three maternity units remain closed.

Pediatric Emergency Services:

  • Closed at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (Loures) and Hospital de Vila Franca de Xira over the weekend.
  • The Pediatric Emergency at Hospital Amadora-Sintra will have limited hours: 00:00 to 08:00 and 20:00 to 00:00, only accepting urgent cases referred by the SNS 24 helpline or the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

Total Availability:

  • Saturday: 130 emergency units will be open, with 32 under a pilot project requiring patients to call SNS 24 before visiting.
  • Sunday: 129 emergency units are expected to open, also with 32 linked to the pilot project.
