Évora Hospital Administration Resignation

The Évora Hospital administration has submitted its resignation following a disagreement with the Secretary of State for Health Management regarding the construction of the new hospital. The project, originally scheduled for completion in 2024, is now expected to drag on until 2027 due to multiple delays.

According to a statement obtained by RTP, the New Central Hospital of Alentejo (NHCA) was supposed to be completed in 30 months, but after over 40 months of work, it is still far from finished. The administration warns that the projected completion by 2026 or 2027 requires a different management model; otherwise, costs and delays will continue to accumulate.

The resigning administration expressed that the current management by the Ministry has hindered their ability to fulfill their primary mission: to provide quality healthcare to the Alentejo population.

They stated, "This difficult decision to resign will allow the Ministry of Health to implement necessary policies and measures without the administration being an obstacle to their realization."

This resignation marks a significant development in the ongoing challenges faced by the healthcare sector in Portugal, particularly in the Alentejo region, where the need for effective management and timely project completion is critical.
