Lisbon Promotes Civil Protection Awareness Day
The Lisbon City Council (CML) is set to host a Civil Protection Awareness Day this Saturday, March 1st, in the Central Square of Colombo Shopping Center. This event will feature participation from various local institutions and civil protection agents, including the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), Portuguese Red Cross (CVP), Public Security Police (PSP), Lisbon Fire Brigade, and Municipal Police of Lisbon (PML).
The initiative will run from 10 AM to 5 PM, providing residents with essential information on self-protection measures against city risks, Emergency Meeting Points, and how to build an Emergency Kit. Additionally, attendees can participate in Mass Training sessions for Basic Life Support, facilitated by INEM.
Children's activities will focus on creating Family Emergency Plans and understanding Emergency Meeting Points in Lisbon. In the afternoon, from 2 PM to 5 PM, there will be Mass Training sessions aimed at teaching citizens of all ages how to respond to a cardiac arrest victim.
Reducing Risks and Ensuring Effective Response
The Municipal Civil Protection Service (SMPC), in collaboration with various entities, plays a crucial role in risk mitigation, emphasizing a preventive policy that includes constant monitoring, public awareness, and simulations. The goal is to reduce the city's vulnerability and ensure an effective response in emergencies, enhancing community resilience.
Carlos Moedas, President of CML, emphasizes the importance of being informed about potential risks such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and fires. He states, "It is essential for the population to be aware of self-protection measures, enabling the city to respond more effectively to future emergencies."
Rui Cordeiro, the councilor responsible for Civil Protection, highlights that everyone is a civil protection agent. He states, "We all have the right to information and the duty to know how to act in case of disaster. The awareness actions promoted by SMPC are crucial to ensure that Lisbon residents are prepared for any eventuality."
