This year, Lisbon is set to celebrate the Chinese New Year, honoring the Year of the Snake with a variety of cultural and gastronomic activities. The snake, a symbol of prosperity, good luck, and longevity, also represents wisdom, strategy, and intuition.
The celebrations will mark the 12th year of the Chinese community in Lisbon sharing this festive occasion. The Chinese New Year festivities, also known as the Spring Festival, will take place at Alameda on February 1 and 2, from 10 AM to 5 PM. Visitors can enjoy a traditional fair showcasing Chinese cuisine, handicrafts, and traditional objects. The Alameda has been beautifully decorated since January 29 in preparation for the celebrations.
The event will feature traditional parades, including the iconic dragon dance and various workshops. The grand cultural parade is scheduled for February 1, from 10 AM to 12:30 PM at Fonte Luminosa, followed by a spectacular show, as announced by the local authorities on social media.
Additionally, the Museum of Oriente will host a special program to commemorate the Year of the Snake, starting on January 31 at 6 PM and concluding on February 2. The program will include a visit and discussion about “The Seven Gods of Happiness” and a workshop for children aged 3 to 5 starting at 10:30 AM.
