Luís Montenegro's bank account investigation has been officially archived. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) announced this on Saturday night, confirming that the Prime Minister was notified of the archiving by the Constitutional Court the previous day.
In a statement, the PSD noted, “The President of the Constitutional Court notified the PSD President yesterday, following a proposal from the Public Ministry (MP), regarding the archiving of the respective records, a decision made last Thursday, April 10, 2025.”
The communication also emphasized that “there was no failure on the part of the PSD President, nor is there any pending assessment,” as the MP “considered that all additional clarifications requested last Thursday have been fulfilled,” a formal decision that the PSD chose to share with the media to eliminate any doubts about the facts.
The investigation revolved around suspicions regarding the declaration of income, assets, interests, incompatibilities, and impediments submitted by Luís Montenegro to the Constitutional Court in July 2022 and September 2023, as detailed in the archiving order accessed by Observador.
The Correio da Manhã reported on Saturday that Montenegro allegedly concealed three bank accounts from the Constitutional Court. The Prime Minister acknowledged that the MP requested additional clarifications regarding these accounts related to his 2022 and 2023 declarations.
During a visit to the Feira do Folar in Valongo, Montenegro addressed the news, stating that he has “always mentioned” his accounts over the past 25 years. He confirmed that additional clarifications were provided to the MP following the Correio da Manhã report, and the matter has since been closed.
Montenegro asserted, “Ethics must apply to everyone,” highlighting the importance of fulfilling our responsibilities.
