Political Stalemate in Madeira

The Madeira Legislative Assembly has officially rejected the proposed Regional Budget for 2025. The vote saw PS, Juntos pelo Povo (JPP), Chega, Iniciativa Liberal, and PAN opposing the budget, while PSD and CDS-PP supported it.

Before the debate commenced, both the PS and JPP confirmed their intention to vote against the budget, whereas CDS-PP announced its support.

Assembly Composition

The Assembly consists of 19 deputies from PS, 11 from PSD, 4 from Chega, 9 from JPP, 2 from CDS-PP, 1 from Iniciativa Liberal, and 1 from PAN.

Ongoing Budget Debate

The budget discussions kicked off this Monday and are scheduled to continue until December 12. On December 19, the Parliament is set to debate a censure motion proposed by Chega. Both PS and JPP have indicated their willingness to approve the motion, which, if confirmed, could lead to the government's downfall.
