A light vehicle plunged into the Tejo River on Monday morning at the Avenida Marginal in Caxias, Oeiras. The Civil Protection has reported that the exact number of people inside the car remains unknown.

The alarm for the accident was raised at 7:30 AM, according to the Sub-Regional Command of Greater Lisbon. By 9 AM, 16 operational personnel were on-site, including firefighters, Public Security Police (PSP), and Maritime Police, supported by five vehicles.

Current Situation

The vehicle is located approximately five to ten meters from the shore, near the rocks, as stated by Sérgio Duarte, the second commander of the Paço de Arcos Volunteer Firefighters. Authorities have discovered a backpack containing documents belonging to a 31-year-old man, who is believed to have been driving the vehicle. However, it remains unclear whether he was traveling alone or if there are more missing persons.

Ongoing Search Efforts

Search operations are actively underway, involving Portuguese Navy divers, a boat, as well as firefighters from Paço de Arcos, PSP of Oeiras, and investigative agents from the same authority.
