  • 15 other units indirectly affected, housing another 35 people.

  • City Council to assess the site on Monday for next steps.

  • Mayor emphasizes the need to clarify responsibilities related to the collapse.

Overview

The 35 residents of the village behind the collapsed building in Lisbon will not be relocated, as confirmed by the Civil Protection source. The electricity has been restored, and the street will soon be reopened.

Incident Details

On Saturday, a side wall of a building collapsed, affecting not only the residents of the building but also 15 other units indirectly impacted, housing 35 additional people. Access to the public road via the affected building is currently blocked, but residents can still reach the village through another building.

According to Margarida Castro Martins, after cleanup operations were completed in the late afternoon, the access remains closed, but residents can use an alternate route. Energy supply to the 15 affected homes has also been restored.

Municipal Response

On Monday, the technical services of the Lisbon City Council will visit the site to assess the situation and determine the next steps. The Mayor of Lisbon, who was present during the collapse, emphasized that responsibilities must be clarified, suggesting that ongoing works on an adjacent site could have contributed to the incident, particularly as the soil remains fragile after recent rains.

"It's very dangerous. We were very lucky, but this is serious; responsibility needs to be established," he stated, acknowledging the potential impact of construction activities nearby.

Despite the destruction, which damaged a vehicle, there have been no reported injuries.
