A Unified Party

Rocha emphasized that the result reflects a united party around his leadership. He dismissed claims of disunity, stating, "While the party has come together on the ground, I know there were some who spoke of disunity. I know that does not serve the party's interests."

Embracing Challenges

In his speech, Rocha acknowledged areas for improvement and expressed his commitment to grow the party, ensuring opportunities for everyone. He criticized identity politics and 'wokism,' asserting that limiting freedom of expression hinders thought. He stated, "In a country of freedom, there is security; without it, there is no freedom. Portugal is a safe country, but there are areas of concern. We will present measures to enhance security for the Portuguese."

Tax Reforms and Social Justice

Rocha also highlighted an injustice against those over 35 years old due to the IRS Jovem tax scheme, calling for a general tax reduction.

Presidential Aspirations

Regarding the upcoming presidential elections, he advocated for a candidate who embodies freedom, rigor, and transparency, stating, "Portugal needs hope, courage, freshness, and ambition. Portugal needs Mariana Leitão."

Election Results

In the leadership contest, Rocha’s opponent, Rui Malheiro, garnered 26.6% of the votes during the IX National Convention held in Loures. Rocha was first elected in January 2023 with 51.7% of the votes, defeating Carla Castro and José Cardoso.
