Angela Almeida, a deputy from the PSD party, previously listed as the number three candidate for the Aveiro district in the upcoming legislative elections, has come under fire for falsely claiming to hold a degree in Latin and Greek from the University of Aveiro. In a communication to the Assembly of the Republic, she referred to herself as "Dr. Angela" and dismissed doubts about her qualifications as mere malice.

University Denies Claims

However, the University of Aveiro has confirmed to Observador that Almeida never completed her degree, stating that she was enrolled but did not graduate. As a result, she has been excluded from the electoral lists for the upcoming elections, a decision confirmed by the district leader, Emídio Sousa. Despite this, Almeida remains a deputy and will continue to receive her salary until the new Parliament is established in June.

Misrepresentation in Official Documents

This isn't the first time Almeida has made misleading claims about her qualifications; references to her alleged degree appear in official documents, including the Diário da República. In a notice from 2018, she referred to herself as "Dr. Angela" concerning a jury she presided over.

Ongoing Controversy

Despite the backlash, Almeida continues to assert that she has nothing to prove, labeling the allegations against her as slander. Nevertheless, the PSD/Aveiro party had previously published information falsely claiming she held a degree from the University of Aveiro.
