Heavy Rainfall Leads to Numerous Incidents
The Civil Protection reported a total of 117 incidents across mainland Portugal by 4 PM today, primarily due to flooding caused by intense rainfall. The majority of these incidents were concentrated in the Greater Lisbon area, specifically in the municipalities of Loures, Cascais, Oeiras, and Sintra.
According to Commander Pedro AraĂşjo, as of 4 PM, there were two roads closed: one in Frielas, Loures, and the other on National Road 249-4 in Trajouce, SĂŁo Domingos de Rana, Cascais.
Nature of Incidents
The incidents were largely a result of the heavy rain observed during lunchtime, with 52 cases of flooding and 59 occurrences related to clearing roads of debris. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties; however, damages were noted in residential areas, garages, and roadways, including national and municipal roads.
On-site, 142 vehicles and 393 personnel were deployed to manage the situation and assist affected areas.
