Severe Weather Conditions Ahead for Algarve

Waves of 4 to 4.5 meters, along with increased rain and wind, are on the forecast for the Algarve starting from the early morning of Thursday, March 13. The region is already experiencing rainfall in both the Barlavento and Sotavento areas.

The depression “Konrad”, which has been causing heavy rain in the Azores, is not expected to directly impact the weather on the mainland or the Madeira archipelago, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

However, an associated frontal system will bring rain to the Algarve. In fact, showers have already begun across the region.

Weather Warnings in Effect

The Algarve is under several yellow warnings for:

  • Precipitation: from 3:00 AM on Thursday, March 13, to 6:00 PM.
  • Wind: from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on March 13.
  • Maritime agitation: from 3:00 PM on Thursday until 12:00 PM on Friday, March 14.

According to IPMA, waves from the west/southwest are anticipated, measuring between 4 to 4.5 meters, alongside heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms. Additionally, strong winds are expected, with gusts reaching 70 km/h, particularly along the coast.

As for the weekend, forecasts from Meteofontes indicate that rain may persist in the Algarve, particularly in the afternoon.
