Blaze Near Luxury Hotel in Lisbon
A homeless man set a fire at approximately 3 PM on Wednesday near the Sheraton Hotel, a five-star establishment in the heart of Lisbon. This incident prompted the response of nearly 40 firefighters from the Lisbon Sapadores and Volunteer Firefighters, supported by 11 vehicles and personnel from the PSP and Municipal Civil Protection.
The fire was ignited in a pile of garbage outside the hotel, and the smoke was subsequently drawn into the hotel through the ventilation ducts. The alarm was triggered by the hotel's own security system, which detected smoke in the basements—the hotel has five underground levels—and initiated the emergency response.
Fortunately, the flames were quickly extinguished, with no injuries reported and the hotel building remained intact, meaning there was no need for evacuation.
