Train Services Update
The train services between Lisbon and Cascais have been restored this afternoon. However, there are still operational constraints affecting the frequency of the trains. According to a source from Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), trains are currently running on a single track between Algés and Oeiras in an alternating manner, which does not allow for the usual schedule across the Cascais line. Service was resumed around 5:30 PM.
Cause of Disruptions
The operation is also hindered by the repair of the catenary (the overhead wire that powers the trains) that fell at the Paço de Arcos station last night due to a tree toppled by Storm Martinho. The inclement weather also affected the Estoril station, where part of the roof collapsed onto the tracks, impacting the catenary as well. Fortunately, this situation has since been resolved. However, IP is currently unable to provide a timeline for when the catenary issue will be fully addressed.
Incident Details
Train circulation on the Cascais Line was halted in both directions throughout the morning, with services resuming around 12:50 PM between Cais do Sodré (Lisbon) and Algés. Last night, a tree fell and struck a train near Paço de Arcos, causing damage to the train and the catenary, and resulting in minor injuries to the train driver. The repair work on the catenary is expected to take several hours, with IP indicating that it may not be completed by the end of Thursday.
Additional Weather Effects
A similar situation occurred in the Estoril area, where strong winds caused part of the roof to be torn off, littering the railway tracks below.
