A New Dining Experience in Lisbon
The newly opened Bonança restaurant, located at the historic Associação Naval de Lisboa, pays homage to Vasco da Gama’s maritime journey to India. This venue, designed by Pureza Peres and Anaísa Franco from WOA – Way of Arts, showcases a centerpiece reflecting the gift from King Manuel I to Pope Leo X in 1514, featuring symbols of Portuguese discoveries like the elephant, lynx, and Arabian horse. The restaurant aims to embody the essence of the era through its cuisine, music, and ambiance.
According to Salvador Sobral, one of the four partners behind Bonança, the restaurant is intended to be “much more than just a restaurant.” He emphasizes the importance of the gastronomic and cultural journey inspired by Vasco da Gama’s expedition.
Culinary Leadership
Leading the kitchen is Chef Carlos Nunes, who previously worked at Artsy Cascais. He eagerly embraced the opportunity to celebrate Portuguese and Iberian cuisine, creating a menu that honors the sea.
The Venue
Upon entering Bonança, guests are greeted by its impressive space, boasting over 10 meters in height. With a seating capacity of 150 indoors and an additional 200 on the sun-soaked terrace, the restaurant is designed for flexibility, offering distinct experiences in different areas. The ground floor features a fresh seafood display, and a vibrant mural enhances the dining atmosphere, complemented by a ceiling painted in deep blue, resembling a starry sky.
