The Future of Work at República5
On March 25th, the main doors of República5 opened, inviting visitors to explore its innovative workspaces. The event featured a panel discussion led by Rogério Canhoto, coordinator of the Artificial Intelligence postgraduate program at ISCTE, centered around the theme "People, Machines, and the Space Between Them: the future of work built on an unprecedented relationship."
Embracing Artificial Intelligence
For about 45 minutes, the spotlight was on Artificial Intelligence (AI), highlighting its transformative role in the workplace. As the nature of work evolves, it is crucial for spaces to adapt and remain relevant. Canhoto posed significant questions about the impact of AI on business management and how to achieve increased productivity in an increasingly digital world.
"We live in a world of immediate results. Shareholders demand quicker outcomes, sales need to be faster, employees seek rapid promotions, and customers want quicker responses. What hasn’t been explained to us? Today, beyond our management roles, we must understand Artificial Intelligence,” he emphasized.
AI: A Necessary Evolution
While the revolution began around 70 years ago, Canhoto stressed that the real challenge lies in utilizing available tools to enhance competitiveness and help businesses adapt. "AI is reshaping the business landscape. It has transitioned from a nice to have to a must have," he affirmed. The discussion also covered the implications of AI for the job market and future employment.
The Future of Jobs
Will jobs disappear? Is the fear of unemployment justified? Canhoto clarified: "AI does not eliminate jobs; it eliminates tasks. Your challenge is to rethink human logic in your company. AI will enhance our production capabilities." The future lies in proactivity and the ability to adapt, ensuring that AI is viewed as a team partner rather than an obstacle.
Exploring New Horizons
With eyes on progress, the presentation concluded, and attendees were invited to explore the various floors of the new building.
