Disruptions Expected in Lisbon's Public Transport
The strike announced by the Transport Workers Union of Portugal for this Tuesday may cause "some disruptions in Carris services", according to the Lisbon transport company. However, minimum services are planned for 12 routes.
In a statement, Carris mentioned that negotiations for the Company Agreement are ongoing with all worker representative unions. Despite the ongoing negotiation process, the STRUP (Transport Workers Union) has declared a pre-strike notice for Tuesday.
Carris emphasized that "some disruptions may occur in regular transport services" on that day. However, due to a ruling from the Arbitration Court, minimum services will be guaranteed during the strike period.
The following routes will be operating at 100% capacity:
- 703 [Charneca-Bairro Padre Cruz]
- 708 [Martim Moniz-Sacavém (Urb. Real Forte)]
- 717 [Praça do Chile-Fetais]
- 726 [Sapadores-Pontinha Centro]
- 735 [Cais do Sodré-Hospital de Santa Maria]
- 736 [Rossio-Odivelas]
- 738 [Estrada da Luz-Alto de Santo Amaro]
- 751 [Estação de Campolide-Linda-a-Velha]
- 755 [Poço do Bispo-Sete Rios]
- 758 [Cais do Sodré-Portas de Benfica]
- 760 [Gomes Freire-Cemitério da Ajuda]
- 767 [Campo Mártires da Pátria-Reboleira(Metro)]
Carris is committed to minimizing the inconveniences caused by this partial service disruption and expresses regret for any issues faced by customers.
The STRUP has called for a 24-hour strike and a general assembly on Tuesday to address the "provocations" from a management board that allegedly poorly handles democracy and the right to strike.
According to the STRUP/Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans), the management has been attempting to impose a low salary policy, while maintaining a "performance bonus" and allowing the Lisbon City Hall, which is a shareholder and responsible for managing the company, to cut funding from Carris’ budget for other initiatives, such as the Web Summit.
This funding cut could have provided a salary increase of 109 euros for each worker, as claimed by the union organization.
Rebuffing the "penny-pinching policy", STRUP/Fectrans urges participation in the strike and attendance at the general assembly scheduled for 10:00 in Santo Amaro. The aim is to discuss new strategies to achieve demands for a real and substantial salary increase and meal allowance, as well as a phased evolution to 35-hour work weeks.
Other demands include the creation of a compensatory allowance for fixed sector workers and the payment of travel expenses for traffic workers without counting bonuses.
