Rodrigo Borges de Freitas vehemently condemns the unacceptable inertia and incompetence displayed by the former Socialist Government and the LoulĂ© City Council, led by VĂtor Aleixo, regarding the Southern Oncology Reference Center (CORS). This project, essential for cancer patients in the Algarve, is stuck due to a spectacle of bureaucracy, lack of political will, and disrespect for citizens.
The Southern Oncology Center was supposed to be completed by the end of 2024, allowing thousands of patients to receive treatment locally, thus avoiding exhausting trips to Lisbon or Seville. However, due to lack of competence and total absence of planning, the project remains stagnant.
The LoulĂ© City Council, which initially provided the land for construction, now stands as the biggest obstacle to progress, citing irregularities in the project from the Local Health Unit of Algarve (ULS). VĂtor Aleixo is attempting to distance himself from the issue, blaming others and using ridiculous excuses to justify his failure to resolve the problem.
At stake is an excess of 900 square meters of constructionâan issue that could have been resolved quickly and effectively. Instead of seeking solutions, the socialist administration in LoulĂ© has delayed a life-saving infrastructure. We refuse to accept that bureaucratic whims are used as excuses to stall a vital health project.
Borges de Freitas demands immediate resolution from the Loulé City Council regarding licensing, urging them to expedite the Plan Review Process, which should have been completed months ago. The ULS must revise and adjust the project to meet all necessary requirements without further delays, and the government must clarify where the promised funds are and what measures will be taken to ensure the project moves forward without more hindrances.
The Algarve cannot remain a hostage to socialist incompetence, which, due to lack of planning, forces patients to endure inhumane journeys to receive treatment. The health of Algarve citizens must take precedence over political games and administrative irresponsibility. The CDS-PP Algarve will not remain silent in the face of this disgrace and will continue to demand concrete and immediate solutions. The time for excuses is over. The Algarve deserves better.
