A Historic Programming Class in Lisbon
This Saturday, around 2,000 people from various parts of the country gathered at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon to participate in the "largest programming class in the world", aiming to secure a spot in the Guinness World Records.
According to a statement from IST, the class was taught by programming expert Rodrigo Girão, along with professors Inês Lince and Arlindo Oliveira. The topics covered included Algorithmics, Object-Oriented Programming, high-level programming in Python, and Artificial Intelligence.
On the other side, approximately 1,800 university students from diverse fields, ranging from Computer Engineering to Psychology, expanded their knowledge of programming during this event.
The organizers emphasized that the main goal is to reinforce Portugal's position as a technological hub on the international stage. They stated, "This record highlights national talent and the vast potential technology holds to shape Portugal's future. By bringing together representatives from major tech companies and the next generation of talent, we believe this initiative will not only make history in the country's digitalization but also inspire the appreciation and retention of our young talents."
This initiative, aimed at entering the record books, received support from the Lisbon City Council and Unicorn Factory Lisbon, which was also represented at the event.
