According to a statement from the GNR, this investigation is a criminal inquiry overseen by the Regional Department of Investigation and Criminal Action in Évora. It focuses on serious offenses such as illegal labor recruitment, tax fraud, document forgery, and computer falsification.
The ongoing police actions are based on the identification of foreign citizens living in deplorable conditions and being exploited for illegal labor. The operation aims to execute 41 search warrants, including six residential and 35 non-residential, to gather additional evidence.
This significant operation involves over 130 military personnel from various units and specialties within the GNR.
The GNR operatives are receiving assistance from the Tax Authority, the Agency for Integration, Migration, and Asylum, and specialized multidisciplinary teams from the Family Planning Association, which assists victims of human trafficking.
