The Sussexes' New Investment
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently purchased a luxurious ÂŁ3.6 million villa in sunny Portugal, but they're facing an unexpected challenge. According to sources, the property is not yet ready for use.
The villa is located in a resort just an hour's drive south of Lisbon, nestled between Comporta and Melides—a region known for its untouched beauty and growing popularity among the wealthy.
A source revealed to Express.co.uk that the home is primarily an investment rather than a new residence. The construction has not been completed, and it will serve mainly as a holiday retreat. They stated, "The villa in Portugal is more an investment than anything else and construction hasn’t even been completed yet."
Influenced by Family Ties
The Sussexes' decision to buy the property was reportedly influenced by Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, who also own a home in Melides. Pauline MacLaran, a professor and author of Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture, noted that having Eugenie nearby could create a familiar social circle for Harry and Meghan's family during their stays.
Strategic Location for Visits
Being close to the UK may facilitate more frequent visits for Harry, potentially allowing him to mend his relationship with his father. MacLaran added, "If the Sussexes intend to use Portugal as a base from which Harry can visit the UK while they are there, then perhaps he will have more of a chance to repair the relationship with his father."
Luxurious Developments
The resort where their villa is located is designed by the acclaimed Denton House, known for delivering some of the world’s most glamorous residences. Owned by multimillionaire property tycoon Mike Meldman, the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club is currently under development and will feature 300 homes with prices starting at £3.6 million.
Eugenie's husband, Jack, works in marketing for Meldman's Discovery Land Company, which specializes in creating luxurious communities worldwide.
